Western Economic Association International (WEAI) is committed to ensuring the privacy of its members, conference participants, and other visitors to its website. WEAI’s Privacy Policy covers WEAI’s information collection practices and the use of information collected on our site. By submitting your information to WEAI you consent to the practices described in this policy. If you are less than 18 years of age, then you must first seek the consent of your parent or guardian prior to submitting any personal information. 

UPDATES AND CHANGES TO PRIVACY POLICY 

WEAI reserves the right to modify this Privacy Policy, simply by posting such modification on the site. Any such modification will be effective immediately upon posting, and your continued use of the site constitutes your acceptance of the changes. 

TYPES OF INFORMATION COLLECTED 

Personal information 
So that you may access services and purchase the services that we offer through the site, we require you to provide us with certain information that personally identifies you. If you communicate with us by e-mail or complete online forms or surveys, information provided by you in such communications may be collected. The information we collect presently includes the following: (1) your name; (2) address; (3) telephone number(s); (4) fax number; (5) e-mail address; (6) affiliation; (7) User ID, as selected by you; (8) site password, as selected by you; and (9) names of spouse/adult-guest when applicable to conference registration.  

Traffic data 
When you visit our site, we may automatically track and collect the following categories of information: (1) your Internet protocol and domain server address; (2) the date and time of your visit to the site; (3) the type of web browser and operating system you used to access the site; (4) the web pages that you accessed at the site. Traffic data is anonymous information that does not identify or track you personally. 

Cookies 
A cookie is a small data file placed on your hard drive by an Internet website server. WEAI uses permanent cookies in encrypted format as needed for e-commerce transactions to keep track of your shopping cart and process your purchases. These permanent cookies contain no information that could personally identify you. 

WEAI uses temporary cookies to authenticate users and maintain the functionality of other online services. With the exception of your account number, these temporary cookies contain no information that could personally identify you, and they exist only for the session in which you visit the site. You can refuse to accept the cookie or delete it from your computer by using any of the widely available methods, but if you do so, you may be unable to purchase products and services from WEAI online or otherwise access some of the interactive features of the site. 

WEAI’S USE OF INFORMATION COLLECTED ON OUR SITE 

E-commerce 
Credit card information is encrypted, to ensure that no one else can view or capture it. Credit card transactions on the site are settled immediately through a merchant gateway that handles all traffic between the site, credit card issuers, and banks. Credit card information is used only for settling the funds needed for you to purchase our products and services. 

E-mail /other uses 
From time to time, WEAI may contact you via e-mail with membership renewal or conference participation information.  WEAI also uses personal information to contact you when necessary, and to authorize access to online services such as access to Economic Inquiry and Contemporary Economic Policy. 

Sharing information 
Except as otherwise stated in this Privacy Policy, WEAI does not and will not share any personal information regarding members, conference participants, or other site users with any third parties, unless disclosure is necessary to: (a) comply with a court order or other legal process; (b) protect our rights or property; or (c) enforce our Terms & Conditions. WEAI does not sell, rent, exchange, or loan any information to any third parties. WEAI does utilize third party vendors for e-commerce shopping cart services, credit card processing, association database management, off-site data backups, conference management, journal publishing and hosting, and email marketing. In these situations, WEAI maintains the role of Data Controller, and follows the guidelines outlined in this Privacy Policy for use of available data. 

USER CHOICE REGARDING COLLECTION OF PERSONAL INFORMATION 

You may choose not to provide us with any personal information. If so, you will be able to access and use some portions of the site, but you will not be able to access those parts of the site that require you to sign in using your personal user ID and password. SECURITY OF PERSONAL INFORMATION 

WEAI has security measures in place to protect the loss, misuse, and alteration of personal information under our control. These security measures include a firewall to prevent unauthorized access to our systems and maintenance of membership and conference-related information on a server inaccessible to the public. Although WEAI exercises reasonable care in providing secure transmission of information between your computer and our servers, WEAI cannot ensure or warrant the security of any information transmitted to us over the Internet and accepts no liability for any unintentional disclosure.  

RETENTION OF CLIENT DATA 

WEAI will retain data in perpetuity, unless otherwise directed by user, and as long as necessary to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce agreements.
